ABOUT US:
A 100% woman owned green business committed to changing the world had its start in comedy! That's what happens when a woman marries a stand up comic. Boylan convinced her husband to incubated The Waste Reduction Store under their comedy/entertainment company Happy Planet Productions for one year to test the market. She knew it would make no sense to double all their costs for a second venture until she was confident there was a market demand for biodegradable products. “ Who would have known that a Catskill Gorilla would have helped move my business along!” Boylan's husband is Winnipeg Stand-up Dan Licoppe. He was featured on NBC'S Last Comic Standing as his alter ego Mel Silverback . ( www.danlicoppe.com ). Boylan and Licoppe met in 1998 at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival.
“We took the revenues from Dan's comedy and shared overhead expenses between the two companies. We were not sure whether or not Canadians would buy sugar cane containers, potato cutlery and corn cups. The market has responded wonderfully!” says Boylan. The Waste Reduction Store Inc. is now a separate federally incorporated business. “We are still married!” jokes Boylan.
Licoppe releases his first DVD entitled Dan Licoppe-UnCaged which includes appearances from Mel Silverback. The DVDs retail for $15 Cdn and can be purchased by ordering through Dan Licoppe's webpage, www.danlicoppe.com.
